Just because Air Defence assets were held on high I didn't mean they weren't available to frontline combat units.

Allocation of AD Assets for British frontline units Germany

FEBA

Each of the Armoured Divisions received,:
•1 Battery of 36 Javelin
•2 Battery of 12 Rapier 1 Tracked and 1 Towed.

if this force deployed evenly then effectively each brigade would have:
• 1 Javelin Troop of 12 Launchers 3 Detachments of 4 Launchers
•2 Troops of Rapier one tracked and one towed (assumed). Each of 4 launchers

Whilst not necessarily allocated to units, it would seem reasonable to allocate a javelin detachment and upto a maximum of 2 Rapier troops that might be considered to be capable of engaging targets overflying the battle groups air space depending on the detailed disposition of the Brigade and where the represented units sat in relation to the air defence assets.

http://coldwargamer.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/orbat-1980s-british-air-defence.htmlAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7779764580884105859.post-18941391576485285092017-01-20T03:13:52.359+13:002017-01-20T03:13:52.359+13:00Spearhead is a fantastic game, and your commentary...Spearhead is a fantastic game, and your commentary highlights some of the aspects that make it so strong. Which can be optimised for this defensive role and therefore less able to seize objectives.

For my part I took an Option B, which included the Hinds as well as a flight of relatively ineffective aircraft. As it happened the SU-7s didn't appear.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7779764580884105859.post-84770852392864909282017-01-19T00:08:21.790+13:002017-01-19T00:08:21.790+13:00War gaming can certainly be an education in planni...War gaming can certainly be an education in planning, decision making and response to adversity.Archduke Piccolohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15533325665451889661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7779764580884105859.post-69801539619994529472017-01-18T23:43:32.980+13:002017-01-18T23:43:32.980+13:00Good discussion!Good discussion!Luke Ueda-Sarsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02004840067785236764noreply@blogger.com
