The 'gaming life has been a little more limited than usual over the last two weeks: there's been some illness amongst us which (me in particular - after a winter free of colds and coughs I've had two heavy head colds in 4 weeks). With several members with health compromised selves or partners this has meant we do have to be a little careful. That said, last week we managed a Volley and Bayonet game set somewhere near the north west frontier, using Adrian's 15mm armies. This week I took part in a 6 player Napoleonic game using Keith's 6mm armies (set in 1813).
The games themselves are less the point than the fact that the extended group of friends I have privileges me to take part in a wide variety of games from different periods, using beautifully painted miniatures. We tend to be scale agnostic in our games, even though each of us has a preferred scale(s) in which we have built our own collections/armies. It's the rules systems, and the fellowship, that bring us together. As humans we are social animals, and I am certainly very conscious that as we age maintaining social connection is important to our wellbeing. I'm doing my bit.. and enjoying the connection, the painting, and the games, along the way.
