Up the river delta ...

Hollywood has probably given us more war movie cliches than (probably) anyone else.  There are those 'old time west' cliches that John Wayne gave (yep, my wagons are in a circle), and which we adored until we realised that we were celebrating the brutal colonisation of a previously free people, and until we gained those insights into his private life. And then there was Vietnam, unfortunately most often remembered for lines about surfing and napalm.

It doesn't pay to dig too deeply into such things in our hobby though, as long as we remember that we are pushing miniature figures around a table top rather than celebrating some particular moral position. With that caveat in mind, last night we played a game set in Vietnam involving the search for a Vietcong supply base. As a game it was clever. There were a series of sampans carrying supplies, with victory points gained for getting these off the table, or for intercepting them. They were being sought out by river American gunboats, while recon helicopters were searching for Vietcong presence on the many islands in the river delta.

We played this game using a variant of the Rapid Fore rules developed by Adrian, and using his 15mm armies. As is my habit, this is not an AAR, but more opf a photo essay omn the game and the figures.

The game was a lot of fun...
